Incumbent State Sen. Frank Ginn (District 47), a Republican, is seeking re-election. Read his response to the Mainstreet Newspapers candidate questionnaire below:
If you are the incumbent, why should you be re-elected? What have you accomplished during your time in office?
I am a fiscally and politically problem solver for my constituents. I have a proven track record of reducing government interference in your life while at the same time providing a business climate to spur economic growth, personal development, and job and educational opportunities so that Georgians can live a quality of life better than anywhere in the world.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I am the best candidate for this position based on my education and experience of proving I work well with others to solve problems. I recognize I can only help individuals with problems only when they can contact me. I have always made myself available to the public so that I can be there when they need help. Otherwise, you are a useless politician! My phone number is 706-680-4466.
What is the most important issue you see that involves the position you are running for?
It is difficult to name the most important issue we deal with in the legislature. A balanced approach to all of the issues we deal with is critical. The largest item we deal with is the budget and it has the largest impact on priorities and the only constitutionally required piece of legislation that we are required to pass, so I must conclude it is the most important.
Tell voters a little about yourself and your background:
As a lifelong Georgian resident, I love this state and the opportunities and diversity that it offers to our citizens. I feel my greatest accomplishment is parenting my now grown daughter (also an Ag Engineer) that has taken the fighter pilot path and is now serving as an instructor pilot in the USAF. Having been in 4H for years, I ran with thought of making the best state better for our children. I saw the need and ran for office to help our state government improve the lives of our citizens. As an engineer working for the public, first for Jackson EMC and then in local government and know in private practice, I knew I could use my experience to improve our state and grow jobs for our citizens. While serving in the Senate, I work with my colleagues to reduce taxes and government red tape that stifles free enterprise. I take my role as a servant for the people seriously and always share my contact information so if they have a need, they can reach me. My phone number is 706-680-GINN (4466).
What is your position on the state’s access for abortion? Should it be expanded to 15 weeks or have more restrictions? What is your position on abortions in medical cases where doctors say it is necessary for the life or health of the mother?
I am pro-life and have a track record that demonstrates that. I worked with Governor Deal to pass the fetal pain legislation and Governor Kemp to further protect the unborn. I am not a medical doctor, nor do I ever want to be put into the position of second-guessing God’s will. I believe expectant Mothers should have the best possible care provided to them and collectively the decision to save the Mother or the Child should be made by the family after consultation with the doctor.
Do you believe voting and elections in Georgia are accurate and fair?
I do believe voting and elections in Georgia are accurate and fair. We have continued to modify our election laws to eliminate any vulnerability on insuring they are accurate and fair. Just this year I worked to put watermarks and other security features on ballots. I voted for legislation to remove the use of QR codes. I Chair the subcommittee elections comes under and pushed to appropriate funds to add watermarks and eliminate the use of QR codes and move to direct read of the ballots. I will continue to work to always insure accurate and fair elections.
