Plans for a slaughterhouse on 196 acres in a rural area of the Brockton community got a thumbs down last week by the Jackson County Planning Commission.
In a 3-0 vote last week, the board voted to recommend denial of a special use permit on Brockton Loop Rd. for the proposed facility. The Jackson County Board of Commissioners will have the final say on the plan.
The property is currently zoned PCFD but food processing requires a special use permit in that zone.
The proposal by property owner Mike Jack lacked specific details as to the size of the proposed operation and other issues, county planning staff reports noted. The staff had recommended denial of the plan, saying it doesn’t align with the county’s comprehensive plan.
