Nadine Mairholtz Johnston, 72, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was born on May 3, 1951, the youngest daughter of Webb and Nora Frances Johnson Mairholtz. She was born in Elberton and moved to Athens as a young child.
She graduated from Athens High School in 1969 and attended Armstrong State College where she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had many jobs in her lifetime but one of her favorites was being a substitute teacher in the Madison County School System.
She was known as "Mom", sister, aunt and friend but her greatest achievement was being "Granny" to her two grandsons. They were her pride and joy and you would often find her on the sidelines at many of their Little League games, band concerts, football games and wrestling tournaments cheering them on and ringing her cowbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Webb and Frances Mairholtz; her sisters, Marie M. Davis,Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Linda Joyce Wilson, Danielsville.
She leaves behind her daughter, Joy House (Chad), Danielsville; her ex-husband, Darryl Johnston, Nicholson; her beloved grandsons, Marcus and Toby House; her niece, Frances Roen and family, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service: Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Community Church, 550 Harve Mathis Rd., Athens.
